Stars snap Bruins’ 7-game winning streak (AP)

Two nights earlier, the Dallas Stars were dominated on home ice by the team with the NHL’s fewest points. Motivated by that dismal showing, the Stars proceeded to knock off the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins. Michael Ryder and Loui Eriksson scored power-play goals in the first period and the Stars ended Boston’s seven-game winning streak, 4-2 on Saturday night.

Michael Ryder and Loui Eriksson scored power-play goals in the first period, and the Dallas Stars ended the Boston Bruins’ seven-game winning streak, beating the defending Stanley Cup champions 4-2 on Saturday night.

Knicks roll by Kings without Stoudemire (AP)

Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points, Tyson Chandler had 18 of his 22 in the second half, and the New York Knicks assumed control early in beating the Sacramento Kings 114-92 on Saturday night. The Knicks didn’t miss starting forward Amare Stoudemire, their leading rebounder and second-leading scorer who sat out with a sprained left ankle.

Avs beat Ducks in Giguere’s return to Anaheim

Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 18 saves in his first game in Anaheim since the Ducks traded him nearly two years ago, and Milan Hejduk scored two goals in the Colorado Avalanche’s 4-2 victory on Saturday night.

Thunder lead wire to wire, beat Suns (AP)

Russell Westbrook scored 18 points, Daequan Cook hit four 3-pointers in quick succession to help Oklahoma City pull away in the first half and the Thunder led wire to wire in a 107-97 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. The Thunder improved to 5-0 and remained perfect in four New Year’s Eve home games that have become a tradition since the franchise moved from Seattle to Oklahoma…

Sens get past slumping Sabres 3-2 in SO (AP)

Bobby Butler scored the decisive goal in the fifth round of the shootout to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 win over the slumping Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. Chris Neil and Matt Carkner scored and Erik Condra had two assists for the Senators, who improved to 5-1-1 in their past seven games. Craig Anderson stopped 26 shots.

Vrbata’s 2 goals in 3rd power Coyotes (AP)

Because the Phoenix Coyotes lack a true superstar, they have had to win games by committee. Radim Vrbata scored a pair of goals two minutes apart early in the third period, Curtis McElhinney stopped 28 shots in his first start of the season and the Phoenix Coyotes hung on to beat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 Saturday night.

Rockets ride Lowry’s 18 assists to win (AP)

Kevin Martin scored 27 points, Kyle Lowry matched a career high with 18 assists and the Houston Rockets led from start to finish in a 95-84 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night. Luis Scola added 21 points, Jordan Hill grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and Chase Budinger scored 17 points for the Rockets, who looked fresh despite playing their third game in three nights.

Jonas Jerebko had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and the Detroit Pistons ended Lawrence Frank’s 20-game losing streak with a 96-88 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night. Jerebko, who missed all of last season after tearing his Achilles’ tendon in the preseason, narrowly missed his career bests of 22 points and 13 boards.

Police say Minnesota Vikings cornerback Benny Sapp has been cited for fifth-degree assault and careless driving, both misdemeanors, after a run-in with security at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Officers were called Friday morning after police say Sapp and his 11-year-old son tried to enter the hospital through a closed entrance.

Knicks’ Stoudemire out with ankle sprain (AP)

Forward Amare Stoudemire did not dress for the New York Knicks on Saturday night against the Sacramento Kings because of a sprained left ankle. Stoudemire, the Knicks’ leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, injured his ankle late in Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The veteran forward had treatment and sat out Friday’s practice.
