Jets’ Revis to miss second straight game (AP)

Darrelle Revis got angry as he watched Brandon Marshall make catch after catch against the New York Jets. While his team was in Miami playing the Dolphins last Sunday night, the All-Pro cornerback was back home in New Jersey unable to do anything to help. “I was kind of upset at myself for being hurt,” Revis said Thursday.

Bryant and Lakers set for European trip (AP)

Pau Gasol has traveled to Spain twice during previous NBA preseasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, so the 7-footer knows all about being a tour guide for a bunch of American hoopsters. Gasol says his third trip back home is a whole lot bigger. After all, he’s with the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers now.

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson missed his second straight day of practice Thursday with a groin injury and it was unclear whether he will play Sunday against Seattle. “Today in rehab, the leg’s still tight, the groin’s still tight,” said Jackson, who was hurt Sunday during a 30-16 victory over the Washington Redskins.

Pacers pick up option on C Hibbert (AP)

The Indiana Pacers have picked up the team option on center Roy Hibbert’s contract, meaning the former first-round pick is signed through next season. Hibbert, entering his third season with the Pacers, averaged 11.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game last year. Coach Jim O’Brien said earlier in the week that Hibbert had the best offseason he’s ever seen.

Morneau took batting practice and fielded grounders at Target Field on Thursday. Joe Mauer has returned to Minnesota’s lineup for the first time since hurting his left knee 11 days ago. Mauer was batting third as the designated hitter for the Twins in Thursday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He last played Sept. 19, when he hurt the knee during a sixth-inning swing and was taken out of the game.

Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen may have even more space to get off his textbook jumper. The performance could have been a personal shooting video except that it happened in the spotlight of the last spring’s NBA Finals: Allen twists and turns away from defenders, coming off screens on both sides of the floor, before hitting a record eight 3-pointers against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2.

NFL: AFL-CIO can’t be neutral mediator (AP)

The NFL has a problem with the head of the AFL-CIO’s offer to mediate the league’s labor talks. In a letter obtained Thursday by The Associated Press, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka offered to sit down with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith to work on the parameters for a new collective bargaining agreement.
