Twins win seventh straight behind Slowey (AP)

Kevin Slowey has a firm grip on his spot in Minnesota’s rotation after a lackluster stretch in the middle of July. Slowey pitched eight sparkling innings, Joe Mauer had three hits and the Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 4-0 on Saturday night for their seventh consecutive win. Delmon Young added two hits and two RBIs, including a run-scoring triple in Minnesota’s three-run first.

The Edmonton Oilers re-signed goalie Jeff Deslauriers on Saturday, agreeing to a one-year contract. The 26-year-old Deslauriers was 16-28-4 last season with a 3.26 goals-against average and .901 save percentage, seeing extensive time after Nikolai Khabibulin injured his back. Edmonton drafted Deslauriers 31st overall in 2002.

Major league batting leader Josh Hamilton was scratched from the Texas Rangers’ lineup Saturday night because of patella tendinitis in his right knee. Hamilton, hitting .362 with 23 homers and 75 RBIs, started in center field in Friday night’s 9-7 loss to the Angels. He was shifted to left field in the fifth inning after feeling discomfort in his troublesome knee, and came out of the game…

Dunn still on Nats after trade deadline (AP)

Sam Bradford is doing his best to ignore the large contract numbers. Sighting a handful of Oklahoma jerseys in the crowd watching his first practice with the St. Louis Rams helped to ground him. The No. 1 overall pick signed his six-year, $78 million contract with $50 million in guarantees Saturday afternoon.
