About 150 protesters attended a rally against Arizona’s tough new crackdown on illegal immigration in front of Dodger Stadium on Monday during a game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Dodgers.

Back-to-back goals help Blackhawks stop Flyers

Marian Hossa and Ben Eager scored 28 seconds apart late in the second period, Antti Niemi had 33 saves and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Monday night for a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup finals.

‘Hawks hold off Flyers, lead series 2-0 (AP)

Marian Hossa and Ben Eager scored 28 seconds apart late in the second period, Antti Niemi had 32 saves, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Monday night for a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup finals. After a wild scoring display when Chicago won the opener 6-5, Game 2 featured tightened-up defenses with goalies Niemi and Michael Leighton of the Flyers stepping up.

‘Hawks lead Flyers 2-0 after 2nd period (AP)

Marian Hossa and Ben Eager scored in a 28-second span late in the second period to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 2-0 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals on Monday night. Hossa gave the Blackhawks the lead, knocking in the rebound after Michael Leighton stopped a wrist shot by Patrick Sharp.

Braves keep Phillies in funk, move atop NL East

Morrow, Lind lead Blue Jays past Rays (AP)

Brandon Morrow pitched seven strong innings, and the Toronto Blue Jays threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the ninth inning to preserve their 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. Evan Longoria tripled off Kevin Gregg with one out in the ninth, but he was thrown out trying to score on John Jaso’s grounder to shortstop for the second out.

An hour-long rain delay was just what Jaime Garcia needed to refocus. Lakers C Bynum has knee drained (AP)

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum’s troublesome right knee was drained of excess fluid Monday. Bynum hopes the procedure will allow him to play closer to full strength in the NBA finals against the Boston Celtics. Los Angeles hosts Game 1 on Thursday night. “It was getting worse,” Bynum said.

Flyers, ‘Hawks scoreless after 1 period (AP)

Michael Leighton stood his ground in goal, and the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks are locked in a scoreless tie after a chippy first period in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals. Leighton was pulled in the second period of Game 1 after giving up five goals on 20 shots in a 6-5 loss to the Blackhawks.

Strasburg to debut June 8 vs. Pirates (AP)

Stephen Strasburg is ready — and so is the Washington Nationals’ ticket office. The Nationals said after Monday’s 14-4 win over Houston that their prized pitching prospect will make his major league debut against Pittsburgh on June 8 at Nationals Park. The 21-year-old right-hander is first scheduled to start for Triple-A Syracuse at Buffalo on Thursday.

Ethier returns to Dodgers, batting 3rd (AP)

Slugger Andre Ethier rejoined the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday after missing the last 15 games because of a broken right pinky finger. He was reinstated from the disabled list before the game against Arizona, and was slated to bat third. The team went 10-5 in his absence and is second in the NL West behind San Diego.

Although the Lakers’ roster is remarkably similar to the group that lost the NBA finals to the Boston Celtics two years ago, Kobe Bryant sees two big reasons Los Angeles might have a better shot this time. Ron Artest and Andrew Bynum said Monday they hope to play major defensive roles in the rematch with the Celtics.

Athletics take 3 of 4 in Detroit (AP)

Oakland pitcher Tim Cahill was running out of things to do during the extended rain delay. Luckily for him, he finally got a chance to celebrate the way he hoped — helping his Oakland Athletics beat the Detroit Tigers 4-1. The start of the game was delayed by 2 hours and 42 minutes due to threatening weather, although no rain fell until more than an hour after the scheduled start.
